Navigating legal problems without law: Exploring understandings and practices behind ’doing nothing’ in response to legal problems in a marginalised living area (LegNav) The researcher will work in the research project LegNav, funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR). LegNav offers a novel bottom-up approach to examining access to justice and dispute transformation, challenging existing paradigms on how and why individuals in precarious conditions navigate the law. It contributes theoretically to socio-legal research, including legal cultures, legal consciousness, legal pluralism, and dispute transformation. The Department of Sociology of Law is looking for a researcher in a fixed term position to liaise with potential collaboration partners, conduct interviews, and take part in analysing data and writing articles. The duties of the post:
Taking part in writing articles based on the finding Present findings on conferences Required qualifications Completed PhD degree in sociology of law, welfare law or social work at the time the employment starts Demonstrated research skills and reliability in collaborative projects Proficiency in Swedish & English (oral and written) Experience with interviewing vulnerable groups Extensive network, knowledge and experiences of legal aid practice Terms Part-time (50%) for 12 months, 1 May 2026-30 April 2027 Employment and remuneration per Lund University regulations Application The application must include: Cover letter (max 2 pages) stating fit for the position and availability CV with publications Degree certificates and transcripts One short writing sample (e.g., thesis chapter, article).
