Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for the instruction and grading of two sections of MUSC 2024.03: Guitar History and Techniques I, offered from May 11 to June 29, 2026. The course will be delivered online in an asynchronous format.

MUSC 2024.03 introduces students to a range of guitar styles, including classical, jazz, and folk. The course examines the history of the guitar and related plucked instruments such as the lute, as well as guitar construction techniques and basic instrument maintenance. Practical instruction includes basic chord playing, music reading (focused on the first three strings), and melody playing. The course also introduces students to the fundamental rudiments of music theory.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and providing a Method of Assessment, delivering course content, and evaluating student work. The position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Music; proven experience in the teaching of guitar - university teaching experience preferred; significant knowledge of guitar history and repertoire; computer literacy.
