General Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting & Reporting in the Controller’s Office, the Financial Officer serves as a primary operational liaison and first point of contact for the Controller’s Office. The role supports the integrity of University financial operations by assisting with financial system support, year-end close and audit activities, and by providing training and functional guidance to faculty, administrators, and departments.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for the Controller’s Office, managing and triaging inquiries from internal units and external stakeholders
• Provide guidance on University financial policies, procedures, and account restrictions
• Administer and monitor trust funds, endowments, awards, scholarships, and expendable accounts to ensure compliance with donor and legal requirements
• Prepare and process correcting journal entries and resolve account discrepancies
• Support monthly, semester, and year-end close activities, including preparation of schedules and audit documentation
• Act as a liaison with external auditors and government agencies, coordinating audit requests and documentation
• Participate in functional testing of financial systems and support system enhancements
• Troubleshoot user issues and liaise with IT and systems teams as required
• Set up, modify, and terminate financial system user access
• Provide training and ongoing functional support to faculty, administrators, and departmental staff on financial systems and reporting

 

Requirements

• Community college diploma or certificate in accounting or bookkeeping
• Minimum of three (3) years of related accounting or finance experience
• Demonstrated experience with journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and spreadsheet analysis
• Experience working with financial systems and general ledger environments
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to individuals with varying levels of financial knowledge
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
• Commitment to ongoing learning to remain current with financial policies, donor requirements, and system updates
