Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director, Alumni Engagement, is an integral part of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering leadership team. Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and the management team, they are responsible and accountable for the design, implementation, management and success of a comprehensive alumni communications and engagement program at the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering that is aligned with, and complementary to, the University-wide alumni engagement goals and strategies and supports revenue generation.

 

The Director, Alumni Engagement will lead the development and implementation of a long-term vision for a robust and successful alumni relations program, engaging alumni whose participation supports the academic priorities and mission of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the University of Toronto. By building strong connections between alumni and the University, the alumni relations and communications team advances the reputation of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and encourages increasing levels of pride, engagement and philanthropic support for the University, its mission, and its current and future students. The Director, Alumni Engagement will focus on converting non-monetarily engaged alumni into donors through a cohesive, targeted strategy including data-driven digital communications to further alumni engagement and support revenue growth.

 

The Director, Alumni Engagement will serve as the subject matter expert on alumni programming and alumni communications related strategies and approaches and will provide informed advice and guidance to colleagues and academic leaders as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION:

 

University degree, or the equivalent acceptable education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in university advancement, or a related area such as client relations, marketing and loyalty programs, or professional member organizations. A minimum of (3) years formulating long-range communications strategies for reaching a broad and highly diverse audience, implementing them, and critically analyzing results. Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating alumni communications strategies to build and maintain a successful alumni engagement program. Demonstrated accomplishments in fostering productive relationships with alumni and promoting alumni/donor/member/stakeholder engagement, satisfaction and loyalty. Experience managing complex projects and events, and developing, implementing and evaluating program strategies. Project management experience. Demonstrated experience and success with managing volunteers.

 

SKILLS:

 

Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to build and maintain efficient and effective working relationships inside and outside the department. Excellent analytical, critical thinking and management skills, decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution. Strong computer skills and comfort level with databases, research, social media, spreadsheets and presentations.

 

OTHER:

 

Superior ability to multi-task, prioritize, exercise good judgment, work independently as well as in collaboration, exhibit good project management skills. Commitment to professionalism, inclusion and flexibility, leadership and appropriate management of personnel and resources, completion of objectives and goals. Demonstrate a deep and genuine interest in the welfare of alumni in order to build and grow strong, committed, long-term relationships congruent with values and vision of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. Strong demonstration of self-motivation, energy, creativity and Alumni Relations and events expertise that will make a substantial impact. Ability to remain current with trends in alumni relations and communications and personal professional development by participating in conferences, workshops and other training opportunities. Entrepreneurial skills and creativity, the ability to multi-task, and a proven ability to meet goals are core requirements to ensure a professional execution of all alumni relations tasks.
