Description of the workplace
The Breast and Lung Cancer research team at the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine currently conducts translational genomic research in breast and lung cancer and is at the forefront of its field. At present, the research team is focused on characterizing the genomic landscape of breast cancer using large scale tumor sequencing data. The research team is led by Associate Professor Johan Staaf and includes a further 5 staff members. The group is international and comprises both senior and junior researchers and PhD candidates. We are now looking for a driven and experienced assistant researcher in cancer genomics to support the project. Work duties and areas of responsibility
The research assignment consists in you independently conducting large scale analysis of extrachromosomal DNA in breast cancer specimens based on whole genome sequencing data under the leadership of the project manager. The work duties also comprise establishing data analysis pipelines required for the analyses suitable for large scale analyses on high performance computing clusters. Moreover, the work includes analyses of clinical data and multi-omic data from primary tumors and cancer cell lines to investigate associations of extrachromosomal DNA with different molecular and clinicopathological variables.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:

  • A doctoral degree in Cancer Biology or similarly relevant subject.
  • Post doc experience of research focused on extrachromosomal DNA in solid tumors, including development of analysis pipelines.
  • Post doc experience of bioinformatic oriented genomic cancer research using different omics techniques, pipeline development, and work versus high performance computing resources.
  • Experience of research focused on gene regulatory networks in solid tumors.
  • The ability to conduct independent research at an advanced level, documented through original peer-reviewed articles.
  • Very good knowledge of English.
  • Good analytical ability, drive and a good ability to collaborate.


Additional qualifications for the position are:

  •  MSc / BSc degree in bioinformatics
  • Experience of cancer research focused on breast and lung cancer

Further information 
The position is a fixed-term employment under SÄVA at 100%, starting from 21 April 2026 or according to agreement, and running until 30 June 2026.
