Would you like to join a creative and innovative team, passionate about offering new solutions to the problem of energy retrofit? Do you have a background in the environmental social sciences and an affinity for qualitative research? Retrofit reimagined is a project about co-creating people-centred policy for retrofit, in partnership with local authorities. Our research to date finds that a one-size-fits-all policy will not work, instead we need to design better interventions for household types. This is where you come in: in this role you will be undertaking deeper qualitative research on a specific type of household, to better understand their identity, story, aspirations for home life and emotional responses to the experience of retrofit. We will use this information to co-design better policy responses with our combined authority partners. You will investigate families with children, who do not qualify for benefits, but also cannot easily afford to do their own work. In this role you will undertake qualitative desk research, looking for existing data and existing literature that helps us to understand such households, and then recruit, undertake and analyse about 25 interviews with households like these. The detailed work in understanding people’s lives will feed into workshops with Combined Authority partners to design solutions for people who are not able to pay, but are not looked after through managed housing or benefits. You will then take these ideas back to our interviewees in a focus group setting to see what they think of these solutions.
