Antarctic ice loss could be half that of previous estimates, study finds An ice sheet expert from Durham University is among a team of researchers which says advances in simulations are enabling more accurate predictions of global sea-level rise due to Antarctic ice loss. The loss might be only half the amount reported in major studies in the last few years, according to the international study by scientists from 12 specialist centres and published in the journal Nature . For the first time, the researchers collectively studied advances in both observations and simulations of ice-sheet mass changes. Dr Pippa Whitehouse, from Durham's Department of Geography, studied how land masses react to the changing weight of ice sheets.
