The investment from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) will enable the University to increase its number of PhD students, facilitate collaborations with industry and extend the length of support for PhD students dependent on the project. The funding aims to recruit and retain the best students in research careers. Dr Nadja Reissland , Deputy Head of the Science Faculty at Durham University, said: "It is crucial to keep investing in new generations of scientists who can develop new solutions to problems and increase our understanding of challenges we face in the world today.
