2011 Graduates: Dr Greg Buckman
From fighting against one source of renewable energy to pushing for investment in others, Greg has been on an eventful path since the early 1980s. With an unfaltering passion for making a meaningful contribution towards an environmentally sustainable world, Greg's PhD focused on what Australia can learn from the overseas use of mechanisms to support renewable energy. Once employed on the successful campaign to oppose construction of a hydroelectricity plant on Tasmania's Franklin River, a dirty and destructive source of renewable energy, Greg is now involved in promoting cleaner renewable energy. He says his journey from the Franklin Dam to his PhD represents the transition that society has to make if it is to successfully combat climate change.
