Awards for distinguished geologist
The life and work of Professor Jon Davidson , who was an internationally renowned geologist at Durham University until his death last year, has been recognised by two leading professional bodies. In late 2016 the American Geophysical Union (AGU) elected Professor Davidson as a Fellow. The AGU is the world's largest earth science organisation and only elects a small number of fellows a year. Jon's widow Donna attended the AGU Fall meeting in San Francisco in December 2016 to collect the Fellowship on his behalf. Professor Davidson has also been awarded the MGPV Distinguished Geologic Career Award for 2017 by the Geological Society of America which recognises those who have made a distinguished contribution to their field of research. Professor Davidson was delighted to learn of both awards before he passed away in September 2016. Professor Davidson was passionate about Earth Sciences and his commitment to his work made a lasting impact on those he taught and worked with.
