The new centre on China education and research at ANU has a far richer library today after a visit by the Vice-President of the People's Republic of China. Vice-President Xi Jinping was at The Australian National University to meet with ANU leaders and scholars for the new Australian Centre on China in the World. The Vice-President also made a gift of more than 1800 books, donated by the Chinese Government, covering multiple aspects of Chinese history and contemporary society. In return, ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Chubb presented the Vice-President with a selection of books covering Australian history and culture, as well as the story of engagement between China and Australia. 'The study of the Asia-Pacific region has been intrinsic to ANU from its foundation, and our University has a long tradition of studying China and engaging with it,' Professor Chubb said. ?The mission of the new Centre is to which will link together the best traditions of classical Sinology with new disciplines and approaches, benefitting people like researchers, educators, students, public servants and the wider Australian public. 'We're grateful for this gift of books from the Chinese Government.
