British Academy honours ANU Professor Nick Evans

The British Academy has elected linguistics expert Professor Nicholas Evans from The Australian National University as a Corresponding Fellow. Determined at its annual general meeting in July, election to the Corresponding Fellowship is the highest honour the Academy can confer in recognition of scholarly distinction and international standing. The Academy's President, Sir Adam Roberts, said election to Fellowship was the principal way the Academy recognised scholarly excellence. 'I congratulate all the distinguished Fellows who have been elected to the Academy this year, on achieving this peer group recognition of the outstanding contribution they've made to scholarship and research in the humanities or social sciences,' he said. 'Election is not only an honour, but also a beginning. I look forward to their active participation in the life and work of the Academy.' Each year the Academy elects up to 38 UK-based Ordinary Fellows and 15 overseas Corresponding Fellows across its 18 subject sections, including Linguistics. Professor Evans joins Australia's 13 other British Academy Fellows, including Professors Em Harold Brookfield, Bob Goodin, Peter Cane and Frank Jackson at ANU.
