Creating Our Place: Young People in Plymouth

The Centre for Culture, Community and Society, within Plymouth University's Institute of Health and Community, is set to host a special event as part of the prestigious national ESRC Festival of Social Science. The event - Creating Our Place: Young People in Plymouth - will bring together 100 young people, academics, community arts groups and public service practitioners to explore some key issues through research, creative film-making and discussion. Among the questions they'll be examining, include: How do young people imagine future Plymouth? How would they like it to be? What can we learn from social science research with young people in other areas of regeneration? How can young people, academics, community artists and public services share ideas and work together to help young people? The event, which is being held at Devonport Guildhall, on Friday 9th November, from 10.30am-3.30pm, will also look at: Young people and place: learning from research beyond Plymouth, a multivisual presentation by Gabrielle Ivinson and Emma Renold of Cardiff University, presenting and discussing their research from Wales Filming Our Place: everyone attending will join together in a participative filmmaking activity led by WIRED and Take a Part, creating a film which shows their vision of Plymouth High St, 2031. This film will then be a contribution to the consultation process on the Plymouth Plan Three Workshops led by practitioners from Seymour House, Take a Part and RIO - ‘My Place/My Needs’, ‘Using Arts in Regeneration for Young People’ and ‘The Organisation of Awesome-how to set up a social enterprise in an hour’.
