Dad and a lad
After rowing across the Atlantic last year, UBSport staff member Norman Beech, Manager of the Raymond Priestley Centre, Coniston embarked upon another challenge. Together with his son James, they completed the Lands End to John O'Groats tandem bike ride last week, aiming to finish the ride in four days, or as close to this as possible. Starting on Saturday 25th June, they finished on the 29th June in a time of 4 days 8 hours. Between them, they had an exhausting total of 14 hours of sleep over the four days. The longest mileage completed in one day was from Bristol to Burton in Kendal which came to 240 miles, with a top speed 50.7mph - going down hill! Blogs and further details of the ride can be found on the Beech Boys website (see right). The ride was to raise awareness of WaterAid and the publication of the story of the transatlantic row completed last year. The book called 'The Atlantic Job - A Dad and A Lad' is available on Amazon from 5 July 2011.
