UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) is a time to recognise that disability is a natural part of human existence and diversity, and that negative connotations and limitations associated with disabilities are manifestations of inaccessible environments and socially created oppression. This paradigm, which has been adopted by UCL, is referred to as the Social Model of Disability, and has an important influence both on how people with disabilities are treated in society and how disabled people see themselves.
