Durham University will this week honour several national and international figures in physics, medicine, law, education and the arts, Durham alumni or with other strong links to Durham University, as part of its Summer Congregation celebrations. These individuals are an example to our graduating students of what they too can achieve. Durham's Chancellor, world-renowned opera singer Sir Thomas Allen, will present honorary degrees to prominent figures in their fields. Renowned theoretical physicist Professor Peter Higgs, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree, in recognition of his landmark research which theorised the existence of the Higgs boson.
