The Australian National University (ANU) has underlined its position as one of the world's top universities with 11 subjects being rated in the world's top 50. The 2018 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) showed ANU was seventh in the world for Geography and thirteenth for Automation & Control. Other strong performing subjects saw Earth Sciences rated 23 in the world and Telecommunication Engineering ranked 30. The GRAS rankings look at 54 subjects taught at more than 4,000 universities across the globe. Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt AC said the latest rankings reflected the University's commitment to excellence. "We are Australia's national university and we measure ourselves against the best in the world," Professor Schmidt said. "We are committed to providing our students with a world leading education and these results are a testament to the outstanding staff and students we have at ANU." Interim Director of the ANU Research School of Engineering Professor Ian Petersen said the high ranking in Automation and Control Engineering shows that the University's researchers in this critical area of engineering are on par with the best in the world.
