First PhD for China scholarship program

A student funded through the University of Sydney's China Scholarship Council PhD program is the first to graduate with a PhD from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Qui Hong Feng is also only the second student overall at the University of Sydney to graduate with a PhD under the University's China Scholarship Council Postgraduate Research program. The first was a student from the Faculty of Medicine who graduated in 2009. Qui's thesis was supervised by Associate Professor Anne Dunn and Dr Steven Maras at the Department of Media and Communications. Associate Professor Dunn congratulated him on his effort, "Qui Hong Feng, known to us as John, worked extremely hard to produce an original thesis on convergent media that will stimulate the thinking of other scholars working in the sociology and political economy fields," she said. "John began his relationship with the Department of Media and Communications as a Master of Media Practice student, which makes his relationship with the Department very special and very long!" Qui is a member of staff at the Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, but suspended his duties to pursue a PhD with the University of Sydney. Qui's thesis is on media convergence in America and the United Kingdom.
