Four out of Five People in Switzerland Use Contraception

Which contraceptives are used in Switzerland and by whom? The first Swiss report on contraception describes contraceptive trends, frequency and methods in Switzerland from 1992 to 2012. The report was elaborated by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) on behalf of the Swiss Health Observatory (Obsan). 80 percent of sexually active people between 15 to 49 years of age in Switzerland use some form of contraception. Condoms and hormonal contraceptives are the most frequently used methods, followed by sterilization and the contraceptive coil. The "morning-after pill" is only very rarely used in Switzerland. These are some of the results drawn from data of past Swiss health surveys of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). Since 1992, the FSO has been conducting a survey every five years.
