Fresh accolades for The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China

PA257/09 The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China has received more international recognition for sustainability and cutting-edge architecture — to complement the two awards it has already received in 2009. The University has been nominated for a prestigious British Business Award for its outstanding work on environmental sustainability in China. The British Business Awards (BBA) 2009 are organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China and are supported by UK Trade & Investment, the Confederation of British Industry, the British Embassy in Beijing and the British Council. Nottingham's nomination for the BBA 'Green Award' focuses on a stunning research facility at the Ningbo campus — the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET). CSET uses innovative technologies within building design and is a landmark collaborative project between the UK and China, addressing some of the major issues affecting sustainable development in China and the rest of the world. CSET provides laboratory, office, teaching and research facilities and was designed as an exemplar building, to minimise its environmental impact by being zero carbon and generating all of its energy requirements from renewable sources. The Centre is helping The University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China (UNNC) to play a pioneering role, contributing to a number of sustainable development initiatives and leading the way in fundamental research to help tackle the challenges of climate change.
