The Australian National University (ANU) has commissioned an independent Review of matters of gender and culture in the College of Health and Medicine (CHM) and its schools.
The Review will be undertaken by Professor Christine Nixon AO APM.
"ANU is responsible for providing a safe, inclusive and respectful campus where its members can study, work and live free from discrimination, harassment and bullying, and where there is equal access to employment, advancement and education opportunities for staff and students," ANU Provost Professor Rebekah Brown said.
"The University has chosen to undertake this review to ensure we are the best we can be in our commitment to providing a strong, resilient and respectful culture as the foundation of our education and research.
"Our staff and students are key to helping us achieve this. Any current or former staff and students who’d like to participate in this review will have an opportunity to do so - we want to hear from them.
"As the national university, ANU also has an important leadership role to play in this space."
The Review will consider issues of gender and culture. The Final Report will include recommendations on operational matters and strategic considerations, and recommendations for future practices to support improved culture, including in relation to gender, inclusion and equity.
"The review is broad in scope - as it should be," Professor Brown said.
"It covers a number of important areas that we seek to better understand and to lead in. It is not about one single issue.
"We are committed to training and equipping the next generation of leaders and workers who will be active in clinical settings for many years to come and who will play an important role in creating spaces that are defined by equity and respect."
Current and former ANU academic staff, professional staff and students can request an interview with Professor Nixon or provide a written submission.
Professor Nixon will present her findings in a report to the Provost, and a summary of her recommendations will be shared publicly. The Review is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
