If you arrive at Billund Airport and want to head to Aarhus, you have two options. Each option has different schedules so you can plan according to your arrival.
912X
The 912X bus is one of the airport buses that travels between Billund Airport and Aarhus. The bus connects between Billund Airport - (Vejle) - Horsens - Skanderborg - Aarhus. It takes about 1,5 hours and is usually scheduled every hour. However, the schedule may be different on certain days. Please note that the bus only stops in Vejle for certain departures at night.
The ticket price for a single adult is 166 DKK (as of 2025), or you may be able to get a cheaper price with your Rejsekort (but you can only get a Rejsekort after you have a CPR number). You can also buy your ticket on the Rejseplanen app or website, or pay directly on the bus. When you arrive at Billund Airport, you can also find the schedule on the schedule board before the exit door. The bus stop is located just in front of the exit gate of the airport.
To pay for your ticket, there are multiple options:
- Pay in cash, with an accepted debit/credit card, or with your Rejsekort (travel card)
Another option to reach Aarhus from Billund Airport is to take bus 43 and then the train. Bus 43 goes from Billund Airport to Vejle Central Station (Vejle Trafikcenter), which takes about 30 minutes. The bus schedule can be seen on the Sydtrafik website and the ticket can be purchased using cash on the bus or through the Sydtrafik app. You can buy a single ticket from Billund Airport to Vejle with a price around 40-60 DKK. We recommend buying the ticket before you get on the bus. If you want to buy the ticket on the bus, you have to use the ticket machine with cash (no card). You can also use Rejsekort.
To transfer to the train, you need to buy your ticket with Rejseplanen and search the schedule that matches with your bus. You can add a seat reservation for an extra cost, which is recommended during busy travel times. The price of the ticket differs depending on type of train and time of purchase. The closer to date of departure, the more expensive the ticket will be - so we suggest that you plan your journey at least 2-3 weeks ahead of time to get a cheaper price. You can also download the DSB app on your phone to buy tickets. If you create a DSB account to use when you purchase tickets, you can collect points that can be used to get coffees, pastries or meals at 7-Eleven!
Note: The Sydtrafik app cannot be used to purchase bus tickets around Aarhus because it is for a different region in Denmark. To get around Aarhus, you should download the Rejsebillet app.
It is also important to know that once you enter the city of Aarhus and travel on our city buses, you cannot purchase tickets on the bus - you MUST have either a Rejsekort or the Rejsebillet app.
From Aarhus Airport to Aarhus
Aarhus Airport is located close to Aarhus, but its name is a bit misleading since it can take over an hour to travel between the airport and the center of Aarhus. The easiest way is to take the 925X bus, which is the airport shuttle with a schedule based on airport arrivals. It will take you to the main train station, Aarhus H, with other stops along the way. You can buy your ticket on the bus or from the Rejsebillet app under "Special tickets" (see the picture below).
Note: You must book your bus no later than an hour before your flight departure if you are travelling from Aarhus to Aarhus Airport.
An alternative, but longer option is to take Letbanen 1 (L1), also called the "light rail," from Aarhus H to Kolind and change to bus 312. If you choose this way, you will spend 1,5 hours travelling. I also do not recommend this route if you do not have a Rejsekort. It can be pretty tricky to buy tickets for Letbanen, so if you come to Aarhus for the first time or travel from Aarhus without Rejsekort I recommend you use the shuttle bus and purchase your ticket in the app.
Paying by card or through an app is a common feature in Denmark, so you do not have to carry cash all the time (or ever, sometimes places do not accept cash) - your credit/debit card is enough to pay for most things.
From Copenhagen Airport to Aarhus
In my opinion, the easiest and cheapest way to travel from Copenhagen Airport to Aarhus is taking the FlixBus. If you book your tickets in advance, you might be lucky to pay only 120 DKK or even less, but the prices can rise. FlixBuses do not run so frequently though, so you might consider taking the train from Copenhagen Airport to Aarhus H (main train station) which runs more often. Bus and train take about the same amount of time, but train is more comfortable (more spacious seating and you can walk around). If you are prone to motion sickness, train might be a better option for you. You can check the schedule and prices on the DSB app or website. It is also wise to buy your train ticket in advance because the prices tend to rise and be much higher on the day of your travel.Aarhus University
