Girl geeks get to grips with business
Scottish women keen to start their own technology firms are to be offered free expert business advice. Girl Geek Scotland - a network for women interested in science, engineering and computing - is hosting a series of events aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills Women with an idea that could be turned into a business can attend residential weekend workshops funded by the University of Edinburgh's Informatics Ventures - an initiative that connects innovators with hi-tech entrepreneurs. The deadline for applications for the first of the workshops is 9 August. The workshops are free, provided certain criteria are met. Weekend workshops. Women who already run small companies can also attend - providing their business employs fewer than 250 people and it has an annual turnover of of less than ¤50M a year. The workshops, to be held in Stirling, will focus on three key areas - creativity, funding and negotiation - and take place on 17-19 September, 15-17 October and 19-21 November.
