Cath Holmstrom, Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Care, leaves Sussex after 14 years
Head of Social Work and Social Care to leave Sussex. Cath Holmstrom, Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Care, is to leave Sussex at the end of term after 14 years to take on an equivalent role at Middlesex University. Cath leaves at a time when Social Work at Sussex is ranked first in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2014 , and in the Guardian University Guide 2014 . It is ranked second in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2014 . As Course Leader for the BA in Social Work, Cath also oversaw National Student Survey (NSS) results that put the Department in the top five in the country for student satisfaction. Cath studied at Sussex as an undergraduate - graduating with a sociology degree in 1989 - and a postgraduate - completing her MA in Social Work in 1992. She went on to work as a social worker in local youth support, for a youth justice team and within the area of domestic violence before taking her first teaching post at a local college.
