Helping our region bounce back
With innovative schemes to support start-ups and small businesses and boost spin-out company creation, we're ensuring our students and graduates are at the heart of our local economy bouncing back from the Covid-19 pandemic. From electrochemical wound healing to efficient electrical circuits in space, our departments are at the forefront of innovation, with research that will help drive the economy of North East England for many years to come. #GettingResults We're proud to be part of the Universities UK (UUK) #GettingResults campaign, showcasing how universities are at the heart of the UK's economic and social recovery. New research published by UUK and compiled by the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE) predicts that over the next five years universities in the North East England will: - Be involved in research projects with partners worth almost £1 billion; Help 725 new businesses and charities to be formed; and Train over 10,000 nurses, almost 4,000 medics and 8,000 teachers. Developed in Durham We're already supporting local employers through the Northern Accelerator partnership, which brings together academics and business leaders, with a host of funding and support, to form sustainable businesses. These create more and better jobs in North East England, supporting successful local spin-out companies such as Sphera and Gliff.ai through knowledge exchange and innovation. The skills of our graduates will also have an important role to play in the future success of businesses and sectors during the Covid-19 recovery process.
