Honorary Knighthood for the Principal of King’s. Jun 2010, PR 132/10 Professor Rick Trainor has been awarded an honorary knighthood (KBE) for services to higher education. The award is honorary due to his American nationality. Rick Trainor has been Principal and Professor of Social History at King's College London since 2004, and from 2007-9 was President of Universities UK, the major representative body for the higher education sector. Before coming to King's he served as Vice-Chancellor of Greenwich University for four years. Born and educated in the USA (Brown and Princeton), he was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford where he took his doctorate in history. In 1979 he became a lecturer at Glasgow University where he rose to become Senior Vice-Principal.
