Dr Giovanni Covi - Dr Giovanni Covi conducts research in the working group of Angkana Rüland Mathematician Dr Giovanni Covi is conducting research at the Institute for Applied Mathematics of Heidelberg University with a two-year Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdocs. The Italian researcher will mathematically analyse so-called inverse problems. Dr Covi's host is Angkana Rüland. Inverse problems are investigated by determining from a set of observations the causal factors that produced them. Through indirect measurements, for example, conclusions can be drawn about unknown parameters or material properties reconstructed indirectly. Solving inverse problems is not only important in various disciplines of the natural sciences but in medicine as well, where they support non-invasive examinations. Together with Angkana Rüland, Professor for Applied Mathematics, Giovanni Covi will deepen his research in this field.
