His second term of office begins on 1 October 2022 and ends on 30 September 2026. "I am particularly looking forward to working constructively with the numerous bodies and committees at the University." In the 15-minute speech he gave in standing for the office, Wessels sketched out what he saw as the most important topics for his second term. These include for example preparing for the next Excellence competition, the systematic implementation of learning-though-research, a stronger visibility in international research alliances and the continuation of the digitalisation process.
