Leading the way in arts and humanities research
The University of Nottingham is celebrating after being awarded 138 postgraduate studentships to support research in the arts and humanities over the next five years. The award, estimated to be worth in excess of £5 million, from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) will fund 82 PhD and 56 Masters studentships in 16 subject areas across the University's Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Law and Education. Feedback on the bid said the University submitted compelling evidence that it provides excellent planning and delivery of high-quality postgraduate research and training in the arts and humanities. Professor Sharon Monteith, from the School of American and Canadian Studies, said: "The AHRC's investment in our studentships has been and will continue to be vital to the Arts Faculty's commitment to renewing the profession. The strength of our postgraduate culture is vital to maintaining the health of the Arts and Humanities and to supporting the different subject communities." Pro-Vice Chancellor for the Arts, Professor Karen Cox, said: "This substantial award reaffirms the University's position as one of the country's leading research institutions in the fields of Arts and the Humanities.
