"Life as a Redcoat" wikipedia page launched

Gemma Bagshaw, History's Undergraduate Research Scholar, has created a wikipedia page about the British soldiers in the eighteenth century. Working with Kevin Linch, as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project on 'Soldiers and Soldiering in Britain, 1750-1815', Gemma's work explores the lives led by Britain's soldiers in the eighteenth century, and challenges some long-established misconceptions. It covers all aspects of their experience, including: where they came from and why they joined their life as a soldier, not just in battles but their 'off-duty' time the equipment they had and the training they received the wives and families who were present with them British society's attitudes towards soldiers Gemma's work is based on extensive research in the National Archives (Kew, London), and latest research and publications on the subject. The page is designed for the public, to help disseminate current research about the period. View the 'British Soldier in the Eighteenth Century' wikipedia entry.
