23 Oct 2013 The University of Manchester is playing host to 300 local schoolchildren today (Wednesday) for TeenTech - an initiative created by TV personality Maggie Philbin to raise awareness of career opportunities in science and engineering. It is the first time the former Tomorrow's World presenter has brought TeenTech to the region and several major companies, including Manchester Airport, National Grid, JVC and Samsung, will feature interactive demonstrations and workshops throughout the day. "TeenTech was created by Maggie in 2008 to raise awareness of the breadth of opportunities in the contemporary STEM –. technology, engineering and maths - workplace,” said Stephanie Lee, Head of Widening Participation and Outreach at the University. "It is achieved by bringing together career professionals representing a range of sectors to provide interesting activities that will enable pupils to find out about careers that they may never have heard of before.”
