Masters course in Human Resources for Health

Objectives of theCourse: - The HRH Masters course is designed to train, develop and produce HRH specialists with the right skills and knowledge required for HRH strategic and operational planning, policy development, monitoring and evaluation in an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to address health problems in the middle and low-income countries. CourseBackground: - Since the publication of the World Health Report 2006 "Working Together for Health", and the establishment of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA), the world has woken up to the enormous importance of human resources for health, both male and female, as a crucial part of a robust and resilient health system. The Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health in November 2013 recognized that Human Resources are the key to achieving Universal Health Coverage. However, it is also known that a large number of countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia, have a critical shortage-as has been sadly highlighted by the Ebola epidemic in WestAfrica. HRH has therefore remained an important issue on the development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 include the need to increase substantially the recruitment, training, development and retention of the health workforce in developing countries. Addressing these problems needs a complex of inter-related activities requiring specialist HRH skills and knowledge.Thiscourse has been designed to meet these identified needs, with low and middle-income countries specifically in mind, drawing on a synthesis of HRH related studies, and publications that span more than a decade of work in Tanzania, with much regional and global significance as well.
