Music industry event draws top guest list
Movers and shakers from the music industry will meet for a day event at the University of Glasgow to highlight the importance of the industry for jobs and and the economy. Among the high profile guest list will be the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop; Geoff Ellis, CEO of'T in the Park and DF Concerts; Jo Dipple, CEO of UK Music; and Paul Savage, music producer/engineer and owner of the Chemikal Underground label. 'An Introduction to the Music Industry' will be a day-long event on Thursday (March 2) organised by UK Music. It aims to highlight the numerous career paths and opportunities available within the sector, as well as offer an insight into the worlds of songwriting and music production. Ms Hyslop will introduce the day with Jo Dipple, chief executive of UK Music, in the University of Glasgow's Memorial Chapel. Music industry experts will be on hand to discuss with the audience their careers and experiences. The event will also include a panel discussion featuring Dougal Perman, chair of the Scottish Music Industry Association; Doug Paine, founder of Mungo's Hi Fi sound system and Scotch Bonnet record label; Jenn Nimmo-Smith, from music PR company Electric Shores; and Ivan Hall Barrientos, producer/DJ from duo Illyus & Barrientos.
