Narrative and Built Heritage
The event – Narrative and the Built Heritage – is being launched later this month and guest speakers include representatives from the National Trust Film Unit and the Heritage industry. It’s the work of the Service and Enterprise Research Centre (SERC), based at the University, which provides research, consultancy and advice to a wide range of organisations and agencies. Academic researchers from SERC have been working with the Leader of the National Trust Film Unit, Harvey Edgington, and the former head of communications at Chatsworth House, Simon Seligman, to provide information on forming successful collaborations. Charles Mansfield, Lecturer in Tourism and Research Fellow in French Urban Space, University of Plymouth said: “This is an opportunity to meet the specialists and learn how to use novels, film and authors to develop visitor attractions. Harvey Edgington has run the National Trust's filming unit since 2003 and project managed Pride and Prejudice, the biggest production in Trust history. He has also arranged the filming for The Duchess, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre, Miss Potter and Robin Hood on Trust Property. Simon Seligman will be talking about the making of Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
