New Chair of the Archaeology Training Forum

Dr Anthony Sinclair, Senior Lecturer in the School of Archaeology, Classics & Egyptology, has become Chair of the Archaeology Training Forum , a national body concerned with the development of vocational skills, training and CPD in the professional archaeological sector. The forum meets three times a year with representatives from all of the national heritage agencies and has developed the National Occupational Standard in Archaeology, a series of national vocational qualifications and awards for training excellence in the field and is currently involved in the development of apprenticeships. Dr Sinclair said: 'I have been asked to take on the role of Chair to steer the body and sector through what is seen to be a difficult time, with the impact of local government cuts and the introduction of tuition fees, and the loss of government support for education of archaeology in higher education.'
