Professor David Lomas PhD ScD FRCP FMedSci is set to join UCL as Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Chair of Medicine. Professor Lomas is Professor of Respiratory Biology in the University of Cambridge and Honorary Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke's and Papworth Hospitals. He has been the Deputy Director of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research since 2002. Professor Lomas runs programmes at the University of Cambridge for developing clinical and basic scientists, including the Wellcome Trust PhD programme for clinicians, and a 4 year basic science PhD programme in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. He is Chair of the Population and Systems Medicines Board at the MRC, the Grants Advisory Committee of the Alpha-1 Foundation (US), the GSK Respiratory Therapy Area Board and the Research Committee of the British Lung Foundation, where he is also a Trustee. His research interests are focused on the pathobiology of '1-antitrypsin deficiency, the serpinopathies and COPD ( chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The Faculty of Medical Sciences brings together UCL Medical School and five of UCL's Divisions and Institutes.
