New scholars welcomed to King’s
King's is welcoming 50 new academics to Arts and Humanities The School of Arts and Humanities at King's is welcoming over 50 new, permanent academics this year as the College consolidates its expertise in the Humanities, Literatures, Modern Languages and the Creative Arts, strengthening its world-leading reputation in these areas. This further enables the College to respond to student demand for courses ranging from Theology, the Byzantine World and the Medieval period to Film Studies and European Studies. Among the new appointments is Professor Paul Gilroy, author of There Ain't No Black in the Union Jack . Professor Gilroy joins the Department of English with a wealth of experience in his field, including seven years as Giddens Professor of Social Theory at the London School of Economics, six years teaching at Yale and four years at Goldsmiths College. The Department of Music builds upon its reputation as one of the most prestigious music departments in the country with the appointment of Professor Martin Stokes. Professor Stokes has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy in recognition of his research contributions and will become King Edward Professor of Music in January 2013. Other prize-winning academics taking up posts in the School include Andrew J. Counter (French), winner of the Society of French Studies 2011 Malcolm Bowie Prize, and Adelene Buckland (English), winner of the 2012 Marc-Auguste-Pictet Prize in the History of Science.
