The Whale Festival features eminent scientists from the field of cetacean and explores the cultural significance of the whale through film, music, poetry readings and gallery talks. Central to the festival is an exhibition featuring a collaboration between the acclaimed writer Philip Hoare and the artist, Angela Cockayne which draws inspiration from Herman Melville’s 19th century classic, Moby Dick. Together, under the umbrella title of Dominion, these two festivals seek to explore and celebrate the links between Science and the Arts. Simon Ible, Director of Music, Peninsula Arts, University of Plymouth, said: "The Peninsula Arts 2011 Contemporary Music Festival Re-sounding Science is an exploration of the interdisciplines of music and science. The essence of the festival is a programme of live performances supported by current research, philosophical debate and critical commentary.
