Peter-Paul Verbeek (photo: Micha Verbeek) - The Supervisory Board of the University of Amsterdam has named Peter-Paul Verbeek (1970) Rector Magnificus and member of the Executive Board of the UvA. This was done with positive recommendations from the representative advisory bodies. The appointment is for a period of four years and takes effect on 1 October 2022. Verbeek succeeds the current rector Karen Maex, who leaves the UvA in July. The common thread in Verbeek's work and research is the relationship between humans and technology, seen from an ethical perspective. Since 2018, he has been University Professor of Philosophy of Humans and Technology and scientific codirector of the DesignLab at the University of Twente. He is also an honorary professor at Aalborg University in Denmark.
