Philosophy great Pettit to join School

World-renowned political theorist and philosopher Professor Philip Pettit has been announced as the newest faculty member of the ANU School of Philosophy. Professor Pettit will take up the position of Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the School later this year. The position will be a joint appointment with Princeton University, where he is currently Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Politics and Human Values. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young said Professor Pettit will bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to ANU. "Philip Pettit is a world-class researcher and lecturer. His work on moral and political theory has earned him great respect from the global academic community," he said. "During the 1980s and 90s he spent many years here at ANU in the Research School of Social Sciences and it is with great pleasure that I welcome him back to the University." Originally from Ireland, Professor Pettit holds honorary professorships and degrees from Queen's University, Belfast, Sydney University, the National University of Ireland, the University of Crete, Lund University and Universite de Montreal.
