Van Son: "Suppose you are wondering whether or not you should have your child vaccinated. Language models could be used in applications that help provide an overview of all the claims surrounding the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations. Which sources argue in favour of vaccinations? Which ones do they advise against? What are the underlying arguments?"
Potentially large role for language models in information landscape
With the rise of generative AI, unreliable information can easily be widely disseminated, with potentially serious consequences. At the same time, language models trained and evaluated on high-quality datasets can provide a solution to this, research by linguistic scientist Chantal van Son shows.
