Professor Mark Emberton appointed Dean of UCL Faculty of Medical Sciences
UCL is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Mark Emberton to the position of Dean, UCL Faculty of UCL Medical Sciences, replacing Professor David Lomas from 1 August 2015. The Faculty of Medical Sciences brings together UCL Medical School and six UCL Divisions and Institutes, creating a powerhouse of medical science research and teaching. It is one of four Faculties within the UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences. Professor Emberton is currently Director of the UCL Division of Surgery & Interventional Science, a position he has held since April 2012. In addition, he is Professor of Interventional Oncology at UCL and Honorary Consultant Urologist at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). Leading an internationally recognised research group which looks at better diagnosis and treatment for men with prostate cancer, Professor Emberton is a major grant holder, a frequent speaker at international meetings and has published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers. During his time as Director of the UCL Division of Surgery & Interventional Science, he has re-structured the Division into 3 broad research themes: Materials and Tissue; Tissue and Energy; and Nanotechnology. Each research theme looks to the surgery of the future: where implants will interact or be replaced by the patient's own tissue; where beams of energy will replace surgeons' knives; and where organs will be engineered to order.
