Psychology gets high world ranking

The School of Psychology has been ranked at 11 in the world in the recently released QS World University Rankings , compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, the careers and education research firm. Professor Sally Andrews , the Head of the School of Psychology, said that the top ranking of the school amongst international universities of the highest calibre was a reflection of the quality of its research as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff. "To be ranked amongst the very top psychology departments in the world - in the company of the international universities that we set as our benchmarks - is a symbolic reward for the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the School's staff to high quality research and teaching. "All rankings have limitations, but the QS methods rely heavily on assessments by other academics from the same discipline, particularly internationally. We are a comprehensive department spanning basic neuroscience through to clinical and health psychology. This ranking confirms the strength and breadth of the international reputation that we have all worked hard to establish." The University was also ranked 29th in medicine and 40th in biological sciences. The rankings are based on research citations and surveys of both employers and academics.
