Research-based company raises £11m in flotation University spin-out makes successful debut on stock exchange Durham University spin-out company, Applied Graphene Materials (AGM), has raised £11 million by floating on AIM, the London Stock Exchange's international market for growing companies. AGM was founded in 2010 by Professor Karl Coleman, of the University's Department of Chemistry, and is based on his research into graphene, a form of carbon that possesses a unique combination of mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. The company has developed a process for the production of high purity graphene nanoplatelets for use in polymer composites, paints and coatings, lubricants and electronics. On the day of the flotation, November 20, 2013, shares were priced at 155p each, valuing the company's equity at £26.2 million.
