Researchers study digital society in China

08 April 2013 Digital China is the name of a new research project at Lund University that has received SEK 14.6 million in funding from the Swedish Research Council. The money will make it possible for eight Lund researchers to spend four years doing an in-depth study of the use of information and communication technology in China. Around 42 per cent of Chinese people have access to the internet today. In two years' time the country is expected to have 800 million active internet users. Three of the world's five largest social networks are Chinese. Twitter, with 500 million users, sees itself beaten by Qzone, Tencent Weibo and Sina Weibo. Only Facebook with over a billion users is larger.
