Roadshow to bring evidence-based medicine to the veterinary profession

Researchers at the Centre for Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine ( CEVM ) are hitting the road to take training out to the veterinary profession. Evidence-based veterinary medicine is the use of a combination of the best available scientific evidence, veterinary clinical expertise and the specific animal and owner circumstances to facilitate good clinical decision-making in veterinary practice. Representatives from the CEVM at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science at The University of Nottingham are holding a number of evening training events on evidence-based veterinary medicine (EVM) across the UK. The events are directed at all members of the veterinary profession, including vets, vet nurses, students and practice managers and will provide practical tips on how to incorporate EVM into practice. Dr Rachel Dean, Director of the CEVM said: "It can be difficult for people working in busy clinics to get the time to travel, sometimes long distances, for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. As one of the aims of the Centre is to provide EVM opportunities and resources to support the profession, we thought we would get on the road and deliver cost-effective CPD on the doorstep of the profession." Eleven training events across Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales are scheduled. The two-hour evening events will include training on why EVM is important to the veterinary profession, and how individuals can get more involved in using an EVM approach to improve the health and welfare of the animals under their care.
