Rugby team concludes Brazil tour

The University rugby team has made new friends in a successful tour of Brazil. The team played four matches in Brazil, including two test fixtures against the Brazilian national team, ranked 28th in the world. In the first match on 4 June, the University team lost to Brazil 27-11 in Sao Paolo. Over 1,200 spectators attended, with 2.5 million viewers watching the game as it was broadcast live on Brazilian television. In their second encounter with the national side on 17 June, the University team drew 20-20, with Rob Cuthbertson scoring all the points. Edinburgh won the other two matches, beating the Brazilian team 20-12 and the South-select team 46-7, on 11 and 14 June respectively. The matches were arranged to help promote rugby in the South American country ahead of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, in which rugby sevens will be included for the first time.
