Scholarships to turbo-charge aerospace talent in Malaysia
With sky-high ambitions to grow its aerospace talent pool, the Malaysian government has just awarded £500,000 (RM three million) worth of scholarships for the next six years. The scholarships will all support doctoral research students at the Asia Aerospace City Research and Technology Centre (AACRTC) in The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). The agreement was signed on Tuesday 16 February at the Singapore Air Show 2016 by UNMC; the funder, MARA-Aerotech, a subsidiary of the government agency which trains Malaysians in industry; and Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre. "We are proud to work with leaders and players in the aerospace industry to help create a creative pool of talents who are highly skilled and knowledgeable in the area of aerospace industry," said Professor Graham Kendall, Vice Provost (Research and Knowledge Transfer) of UNMC, at the signing ceremony. "This is another remarkable achievement of the aerospace research in UNMC, and a further testament of our research capabilities in UNMC. This scholarship will 'turbo-charge' our world-changing research in the area. "In particular, UNMC will continue to support the aerospace industries in Malaysia through innovation and technology development," said Professor Andy Chan, Director of AACRTC, during the ceremony.
