Korta vägen
There are currently a large number of newcomers in Sweden from countries such as Syria, Iraq and the Ukraine that hold highly interesting academic degrees. To benefit from their expertise, Lund University in cooperation with Folkuniversitetet are offering the programme Korta vägen ("The shortcut") - a project funded by the Swedish Public Employment Service. On 8 September, some 80 academic newcomers, mostly Syrians, were welcomed to a Korta vägen introduction meeting at Lund University. Anaesthetists, lawyers, architects, environmental engineers, specialist physicians in gynaecology and others had the opportunity to learn about Lund University and the education process in Sweden. Korta vägen is a labour market project aimed at newcomers with a university degree or at least three years of academic studies in their home country. The aim is to promote an effective entry onto the Swedish labour market through additional academic training. Participants are also offered internships, Swedish language tuition, civic orientation, information about the Swedish labour market, and lectures via Lund University on relevant topics, such as the Swedish gender equality model.
