The discipline of sociology has a long and proud tradition at ANU, one that will continue. It is not in any way being disestablished or dismantled. Rather, we are simply proposing that the discipline be allied to those of Criminology and Demography to create a larger School, with enhanced opportunities to build interdisciplinary offers in teaching and research. Its staffing remains almost entirely untouched with the proposed loss of one position out of 14.

The proposed School of Social Foundations and Futures will create a new powerhouse for all’of the university’s world leading sociological and allied research. We thank everyone who has so far engaged with constructive feedback.
